Splat!
I think this hummer was "backing up" and probably ended up being surprised instead of hurt.

Stormy,
Is it true that hummingbirds are NOT attracted to the color red? I've heard that red sugar water is not necessary to attract hummers, but I notice all feeders are red. Can you clear this up for me?
They seem to be very attracted to red. Marc always wears a red shirt and when he wears a red hat too, they go after his ears and "humm" around his face.
OTOH -- we ran out of pre-packaged food and put plain (non-red) sugar water in the feeder and they're still using that feeder, so both are probably correct. They're definitely attracted to red, but it may not be absolutely necessary.

P.S. I just got in today, so that's off the top of my head -- which is only barely functioning!
My little cabin in the woods is my sanctuary, where I enjoy watching the birds and other critters, and taking pictures. Note that I am not an expert photographer! ;-)
Earlier photos on this site were taken with a Fujifilm Finepix S5100 with 10x zoom and edited with Gimp.
Photos since January 2007 are taken with a Pentax K100D with a 70-300mm zoom lens and edited with Paintshop Pro XI Photo.
